Marking the journey

As I hinted in my last blog, Jason and I did something pretty big to mark this chapter of our journey in a way that will last a lifetime—we got tattoos. And not tiny ones either! We found an incredible tattoo artist here on Fatu Hiva and knew the time was right.

He’s always been drawn to wanting a tattoo of a manta ray or stingray. The shark at the center represents strength through transformation, a reminder of resilience we need to have on our journey. Encircling the shark are flowing lines that echo the form of the ‘honu’, or sea turtle, known for its wisdom and longevity.

The softly shaded patterns on the wings speak of family—those near and those far. Scattered waves throughout the design represent both movement and transformation, while the circle at the top symbolizes the world itself. Encircling arms around it serve as a tribute to family—always connected, no matter where in the world we go.

Jas returned another day to add a sea turtle —a tattoo rich with personal meaning. First, it commemorates his transformation from pollywog to shellback during our crossing of the equator. But even more deeply, it’s a tribute to a cherished memory with his mom, Valorie (Val).

A few years ago, we took a trip with Jason’s parents to Turks and Caicos, where Val tried snorkeling for the very first time. During that very first swim, a sea turtle glided right up to her, and she joyfully swam alongside it—captivated and beaming. That moment was more than just magical; it was meaningful. It nudged her gently out of her comfort zone and gave her a special connection with Jason, sharing he too has always loved.”

Changing course

As some of you already know we are steering a new course! For the past two years we have brought you along on this incredible journey through our blog here on WordPress.  With our increasing number of videos, as requested and loved by our readers, we have maxed out the media capabilities of this platform.  Not wanting to run both a YouTube channel and a blog we decided we had to pick one over the other.  So here we are, adjusting our course, setting a new direction and as always bringing you along for the journey.
