Buy Me a Coffee at ko-fi.com

We have had so many heartwarming experiences on this trip. We have been the recipient to so many acts of kindness and have met some truly remarkable people. From convenient car rides home from grocery shops to those who have given Dylan fishing lures, each kind gesture makes us want to pay it forward any time we can.

One experience that left me speechless came at a time when some of my anxieties about the trip were really starting to overwhelm me. We had recently arrived in Nassau, Bahamas and in the days prior we had a sleepless, stressful night on anchor watch, a very heavy sail and were dealing with difficult weather patterns. We were anchored in Nassau channel when I saw on Windfinder that a two-day storm was coming later that week. It was very likely our anchor would hold but I knew it would be a rough two days in the anchorage and I just felt like I was running on empty emotionally. Ignoring our budget, I booked us into a marina to weather the storm. We track all our expenses carefully but know that pricy marina stays are very tough to absorb. At the moment we are both not working from the boat but are open to opportunities. We have funds to cover us for three years but only if we stick to our budget. That is proving to be very tricky at times.

Hours before the storm hit, we brought Starship into her slip at Palm Cay Marina. Soon after we saw huge green/grey clouds roll in from the west followed by the predicted high winds. I was so thankful we were tied to a dock. Later that night we received a message from a friend we met in Chicago back in the fall. He said he wanted to pay for a night at our marina. I read his text a second time through teary eyes. We were so shocked and touched by his kind offer.  Unfortunately, we were not set up to receive the funds from him. In Canada we use eTransfer but we cannot use it to receive American funds. Zelle or Venmo are the money transfer methods used in the United States but, as Canadians, we were not able to set ourselves up with either one. The marina office was not able to assist so in the end, we were not able to receive his kind gift.

This is why we now have Ko-fi set up. Ko-fi is a platform similar to Patreon as it allows us to now easily receive donations. It does not charge us fees and was very easy to set up. If you like our content, feel free to buy us a coffee. We are heart warmed by all who follow along with my blogs and I will aim to write more frequently as we continue on this journey of a lifetime.
