Let’s start with our Captain – Jason – our fearless leader!
As I write this I am at the hanger at Gimli Airport where Starship is in indoor storage. This weekend Jason is acting as a contortionists in the engine room doing electrical work while I write up our website content. Jason loves to write and looks forward to telling his story to how we got to where we are today…and he will…until now I have to find his words. His list of projects on the boat is just way too long at the moment for him to turn his attention to writing. That’ s okay and I will do my best!
Jason’s obsession for sailing came from his parents having a sailboat in Gimli Harbour but maybe it was in his blood before he was born. His grandparents had a boat called the Dundee, a 45 foot wooden cabin cruiser that cruised the lake long before Jason was born. From there grew a passion for being on the water and I will forever be thankful for that!
Jason is now an experienced sailor who many other sailors turn to for advice. He is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet and he has a generous heart. He has a love for adventure, a head for problem solving and that combined with his mechanical engineering know-how has provided him with the skills needed to toss the lines and cruise the world. Jason can fix ANYTHING! This is good as you may have heard the saying ‘everything is broken on your boat, you just don’t know it yet‘!
He is my best friend and my rock, I can’t wait for us to live our dream together on the water.

Dylan
By the time we toss the lines in Thunder Bay, our Dylan can be defined as an accomplished sailor, ukulele-alien, football player, and certified scuba diver. Our little man never stops amazing us! We are about to turn his entire world upside down and he is fortunately as excited as we are! In our endless research leading up to this trip we know there is a ‘sweet spot’ when it comes to the age for kids adapting to life on a boat. With Dylan being 11 he’s not yet swept up into the social connections that are difficult to break. He does have many special relationships that we will do our best to continue but we know there are so many like-minded sailing kids that he will soon be connecting with.
Dylan will be a hands on sailor, my sous-chef in the galley, a boat-schooling student, an eager scuba diver and a new friend to kids from sailing families we will search out along the way. We can’t wait to take Dylan on this adventure and it will be so interesting to see how all the cultural experiences and life on the ocean will play a part in the man he someday will be!
