Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands – our lush landfall

After our crossing, our floating home finally found stillness in the emerald embrace of Hiva Oa, anchored just off the village of Atuona. It’s hard to believe this place even exists – lush, wild, and green in every direction with jagged volcanic peaks that look like they were carved by ancient gods in a hurry. The quiet here is so gentle, broken only but the occasional rooster or the soft rustle of leaves in the breezes… well, and the sound of roaring vehicles. The anchorage is right by a road used by a handful of the 2,200 people who live on this island.

Just in time to celebrate my 50th birthday (as you know!), we traded the endless horizon of blue for green views of the lush hills and valleys. I swear our eyes are still adjusting. Life here moves slower than a sea turtle with jet lag and we love it. Arriving here we did not only achieve landfall, it feels like a well-earned exhale.

Below you will find a quick video showing you all of what we have been up to this past week. Our days filled quickly with me being back to work and starting back up with teaching Dylan. Jason’s time here has quickly filled up with continued boat fixes and maintenance – something he’s way too familiar with. The routine is good though and we are having exciting discussions about all the places in French Polynesia that we plan to sail to!

✨YouTube news! ✨Speaking of exciting… we are now in the planning stage for our upcoming YouTube channel! We still have much work to do though to develop how we want it to look and feel. I also am learning a few new programs including working with new video software so I have a bit of a learning curve to climb, but we are pumped! The hope is to launch it sometime in early July – and you will be the first to know! Until then, we will continue to post blogs on this site as we begin our travels throughout the beautiful Marquesas Islands. 🏝️

Norm! I did not see this comment…I try to reply to them right away! Soooo it was a bust! 😭 It was a hot, humid walk only to discover there was no market that day. Oh well, we ended up getting a few useful fresh things by going to the three little groceries stores there. Oh well.
